Discover the art of Boro, the Japanese tradition of mending with scraps and stitching. Once a symbol of poverty, Boro is now celebrated for its beauty and sustainability. In this workshop, you’ll learn hands-on techniques to repair and embellish your clothes in this timeless style.

What You’ll Learn

  • History of Boro: Explore its origins and cultural significance, with vintage examples from Japan.

  • Mending Techniques: Repair garments using both modern and vintage fabric scraps.

  • Sashiko Stitching: Master this traditional Japanese embroidery to strengthen and decorate fabrics.

  • Decorative Stitches: Practice running stitch, backstitch, herringbone, and more.

  • Appliqué & Reverse Appliqué: Add layers and texture to your work.

What’s Included

  • All materials: Sashiko needles, thread, and fabric scraps.

  • Vintage Boro textiles for inspiration, brought back from Japan by your tutor.

  • Tools & guidance: Everything you need to start mending, plus expert tips.

  • Tea, coffee & biscuits
